Our Lady of Lourdes Church

The rosary has been prayed since the thirteenth century.  While meditating on the life of Jesus, one recites the prayers that bring us closer to Him and to His Mother, Mary.

The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

The Angelus
V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary…

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it done to me according to your word.
Hail Mary. . .

V. And the Word was made flesh.
R. And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary. . .

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, so by His Passion and Cross we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Glory be to the Father…(3x)

V. Thou, O Lord, will open my lips,
R. And my tongue shall announce Thy praise.

V. Incline unto my aid, O God,
R.  O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father…

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy Love.  Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created; And Thou shall renew the face of the earth.  Let us pray,
O God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the Light of Your Holy Spirit, grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation.  Through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer before the Rosary
O our dearest Mother Mary, behold us, your children, in prayer at your feet.  Accept this Holy Rosary which we offer you in accordance with your request s at Fatima, as a proof of our tender love for you; for the intentions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in atonement for the offenses committed against your Immaculate Heart, and for this special favor which we humbly request in this rosary.

(silently pause/mention your request. At this time silently mention your particular intentions for this Rosary (thanksgiving, reparation, petition) “…and may we always retain our most precious Catholic Faith, practice it fervently, and die for it if necessary, we humbly pray.”)

I unite with all the Angels and Saints in heaven, with all the just on earth, and with all the faithful here present.  I unite with Thee, O my Jesus, in order to praise worthily Thy holy Mother, and to praise Thee in her and through her.  I renounce all the distractions that I may have during this rosary, which I wish to say with modesty, attention, and devotion, just as if it were to be the last of my life.

We offer Thee, O most Holy Trinity, this Creed in honor of all the mysteries of our Faith; this Our Father, and these three Hail Mary’s in honor of the unity of Thy Essence and the Trinity of Thy Persons.  We ask of Thee a lively faith, a firm hope, and an ardent charity.  Amen.

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.   Amen.

Pater Noster/The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come.  Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

Ave Maria
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Fatima Prayer
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.
Come Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your well-beloved spouse.
O Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria.  Ave, Ave, Ave Maria.

Oremus. Amen.

Prayer to the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, in these times of such brazen impiety, show thy power with the signs of thy former victories, and from thy throne, from which thou bestows pardon and graces, mercifully look upon the Church of thy Son, His Vicar on earth, and every order of clergy and laity, who are sorely oppressed in this mighty conflict.

Powerful Vanquisher of all heresies, hasten the hour of mercy even though the hour of God’s justice is every day provoked by the countless sins of men.

For me who am the least of men, kneeling before thee in prayer, obtain the grace I need to live a holy life upon earth and to reign among the just in Heaven. Meanwhile, together with all faithful Christians throughout the world, I greet thee and acclaim thee as Queen of the Most Holy Rosary.

V.  O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary,   R.  Pray for us.

Respect Life Prayer:

O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life.  Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick, killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy.

Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of Life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build together with all people of good will the civilization of truth and love to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.  Amen.

–St. Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae (1995)

Prayer through the intercession of St. Therese

O gentle Jesus, through whom all life came to be, hear our prayers for all men and women.  Hear our prayers for the great and powerful.  Hear our prayers for the weak and the broken; hear our prayers for the littlest and the most innocent.  Hear our prayers for tall human cedars and the very littlest human flowers. May all see in each the souls most precious to you, and through the intercession of St. Therese, may each of them be kept, saved and loved.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Memorare:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I for unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother, to you do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions but, in thy clemency, hear and answer me. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph after the Rosary
To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the help of your most holy spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also.

Through that charity which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities. O most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness;
and, as once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity;
shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die holily, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.

The purpose of Pope Leo XIII’s 1889 encyclical, QUAMQUAM PLURIES,  was to implore divine help by means of prayer, joining to the intercession of Mary that of St. Joseph, that God might be more willing to grant our petitions and that he might aid his Church more promptly and generously. Leo XIII therefore attached to his encyclical a special Prayer to St. Joseph ordering that it be added to the recitation of the rosary every year in perpetuity, during the month of October. To this prayer he attached an indulgence, which is fittingly preserved in the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum. He also recommends dedicating to the holy Patriarch the month of March, with daily exercises of piety in his honor, and to observe at lest a triduum of prayers preceding the Feast of St. Joseph.  Source: https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/devotion-to-st-joseph-346.

Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Let us pray.

O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as supplicants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious St. Michael the Archangel, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all the other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of souls.  Amen.

May the Divine assistance remain with us always. Amen.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

And may the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

The Sign of the Cross In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
